HLS Supplies FS-75 Fabric Sealer in Contemporary Maritime Art Projects
We are delighted to share the incredible application of our FS-75 Fabric Sealer by artist Pete Codling, whose innovative use of the product has brought both historical and contemporary artworks to life.
Kinship Drawing
Pete's Kinship drawing, a contemporary maritime masterpiece, utilises the FS-75 Fabric Sealer to preserve its intricate charcoal details on a large canvas sail. This artwork, exhibited at the Southampton City Gallery as part of the Creative Connections exhibition, has garnered significant acclaim, including the prestigious Taylor Foundation Prix at the Paris Art Capital in February 2024.
The Kinship drawing will continue its journey, being showcased at the Musa International Pavilion in Venice during the Biennale 2024, demonstrating the durability and protective qualities of FS-75 Fabric Sealer in various environments.
The Big Sail Project at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Pete's ambitious project at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard involves creating two epic charcoal drawings on large canvas sails, inspired by the rich history of Portsmouth. The first, a life-size replica of the HMS Victory spritsail, measures 17m x 10m, while the second comprises smaller main sails from the Mary Rose.
These artworks, collectively titled CROWD - The Big Sails, aim to depict the multicultural history of Portsmouth through portraits of individuals connected to the Dockyard. The FS-75 Fabric Sealer plays a crucial role in this project, providing a clear, UV-stable, and environmentally friendly solution to preserve and protect these large-scale charcoal drawings.

Pete has found the 25-litre containers of FS-75 Fabric Sealer to be economical and effective for his projects. For larger orders, such as the 100-150 litres needed for the big sail project, we recommend continuing with the 25-litre containers to maintain cost efficiency and ease of use. Each container is priced at £109.
